The National Merit Scholarship Competition
White Plains High School Seniors Daniel R. DeGenaro, Eli S. Lichtblau, Kristina Z. Radulovic and Aaron J. Weiner were named Commended Students in the 2018-19 National Merit Scholarship Competition. They placed in the top five percent of students who entered the competition. Isabela M. Kent and Samuel D. Brown were honored in the National Hispanic Recognition Program. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation, a not-for-profit organization, was established in 1955 specifically to conduct the annual National Merit Program, to honor the nation’s scholastic champions and encourage the pursuit of academic excellence.

WPHS Orchestra students got an amazing surprise on their field trip to NY Philharmonic.
WPHS Orchestra students got an amazing surprise on their field trip to NY Philharmonic. They were on a lawn across the street from Juilliard just before the concert when Juilliard President Damian Woetzel spotted the group from his office. The video attached shows him teaching our students some ballet steps. A few minutes later, Mr. Woetzel crossed the street, greeted the students, and told them the story of the ballet from which the steps were taken. What a memorable start to our field trip. Congratulations to The ROAR!
White Plains high school’s student-run art/literary publication, The ROAR (2018), was once again named First Place by the American Scholastic Press Association. The ASPA’s annual review and contest for scholastic newspapers, yearbooks and magazines compares student publications at colleges, universities and high schools around the nation. Judges base their scores on page design, story layout, graphics, headlining, style, advertising and photography, content, creativity and editing. Points are allocated in the various competition categories based on a judge’s assessment. Judges commented on the superior concept, editing, layout/graphics, creativity, writing, and art.

IMPORTANT NEWS!
IMPORTANT: Effective January 2, all visitors during the school day will need to enter through the main entrance of White Plains High School. All exterior doors will be locked after 8:00, with the exception of the main entrance and the student parking lot door near the auditorium. Students may be asked to present their school IDs when they enter the building after 8:00. Students who need school IDs can stop by the student activities office. ANUNCIO IMPORTANTE: Empezando el 2 de enero, todos los visitantes deben de entrar por la puerta principal de White Plains High School, localizada en el frente de la escuela. Todas las puertas, con la excepción de la puerta principal y la del parqueadero para estudiantes cerca del auditorio, estarán cerradas después de las 8:00. Es posible que se les pida a los estudiantes por su carnet estudiantil cuando entren después de las 8:00. Cualquier estudiante que necesite un carnet, puede pedirlo en la oficina de actividades estudiantiles.
