Individual at White Plains High School tests positive for COVID-19

Update Nov. 22

The district learned on November 22, 2020 that a member of the White Plains High School community has tested positive for COVID-19. I can share that this individual has had limited contact with staff and students.

We are currently working closely with the Westchester County Department of Health to identify this individual's contacts at the school. The Westchester County Department of Health will reach out to all contacts and advise on the need to quarantine and to arrange testing of those exposed. Additionally, if you are not contacted by the Westchester County Department of Health but would like to be tested, please contact (914) 995-5800 to find a testing location near you or talk with your healthcare provider. 

Any students or staff members who have been in close contact with this individual will also be directly contacted by Maggie Racioppo, R.N. School Nurse Coordinator within 24 hours to discuss how long they should self-quarantine and other health-related instructions. 

Students who have been directed to self-quarantine will temporarily switch to online learning until their quarantine has ended and they are cleared to return to campus for in-person instruction.  

At this time, our school remains open for in-person instruction. We continue to work closely with the Westchester Department of Health and follow their guidance on how to maintain a safe and healthy learning environment. El distrito se enteró el 21 de noviembre de 2020 de que un miembro de la comunidad de la Escuela Secundaria White Plains ha dado positivo para COVID-19. Puedo compartir que esta persona ha tenido un contacto limitado con el personal y los estudiantes.

Actualmente estamos trabajando en estrecha colaboración con el Departamento de Salud de County Westchester para identificar los contactos de esta persona en la escuela. Update: Nov. 18

As a follow up to the identified positive COVID-19 case from yesterday, November 17, 2020, the district has completed the initial contact tracing process. The building has been sanitized as is routine on Wednesdays as well. We will resume our normal hybrid schedule tomorrow, Thursday, November 19, 2020 with the Green, Pink, and Orange Learning Cohorts.  

Students who have been directed to self-quarantine will temporarily switch to online learning until their quarantine has ended, and they are cleared to return to campus for in-person instruction.   

Once again, WPHS will re-open for in-person instruction tomorrow, Thursday, November 19, 2020.

Como seguimiento del caso COVID-19 positivo identificado ayer, 17 de noviembre de 2020, el distrito ha completado el proceso inicial de rastreo de contactos. El edificio ha sido desinfectado como es rutina los miércoles. Reanudaremos nuestro horario híbrido normal mañana jueves, 19 de noviembre de 2020, con las Cohortes de Aprendizaje Verde, Rosa y Naranja.  

Los estudiantes que han sido dirigidos a la cuarentena automática cambiarán temporalmente al aprendizaje remoto hasta que su cuarentena haya terminado y sean autorizados a regresar al campus para recibir instrucción en persona.  

Una vez más, WPHS volverá a abrir para instrucción en persona mañana, jueves, 19 de noviembre de 2020.

The district learned this evening that a member of the White Plains High School community has tested positive for COVID-19.   As a result, Wednesday, November 18th will be a full remote learning day for all WPHS staff and students.

Any students or staff members who have been in close contact with this individual will also be directly contacted by Maggie Racioppo, R.N.  School Nurse Coordinator within 24 hours to discuss how long they should self-quarantine and other health-related instructions.  

Students who have been directed to self-quarantine will temporarily switch to online learning until their quarantine has ended and they are cleared to return to campus for in-person instruction.

UPDATED: On Oct. 19, 2020, the district learned that a member of the White Plains High School (WPHS) community tested positive for COVID-19.

It became necessary to transition all students who were present on Tuesday and potentially exposed staff to a remote learning model until Oct. 28, 2020, per the Westchester County Department of Health. This transition will take effect immediately. We apologize for the inconvenience.


The district learned on Oct. 19 that a member of the White Plains High School (WPHS) community has tested positive for COVID-19.

The district has decided to transition all Tuesday (Group Blue) students and potentially exposed staff to a remote learning model until Oct. 27. This transition will take effect immediately. Staff members who may have been exposed have been notified individually.

Instruction will be delivered to Group Blue students using the district’s fully remote learning model. The school’s faculty and students have been notified; WPHS teachers will be in contact with their students and their families regarding classwork.

Health privacy laws restrict us from disclosing or confirming any personally identifiable information. We cannot identify anyone who has tested positive.

The Westchester Department of Health will reach out to all contacts and advise on the need to quarantine and arrange testing of those who may have potentially been exposed.
