Individual at Highlands Middle School tests positive for COVID-19

Update Nov. 29

Our school was notified on November 28, 2020, that a member of the Highlands community has tested positive for COVID-19. The district has performed the necessary contact tracing protocol and fortunately, no one has  had contact with this individual.

Update Nov. 17

Yesterday, the district was informed that 2 members of the Highlands community tested positive for Covid-19.  Based on the district's contact tracing and the number of students and staff who have been quarantined, all students at Highlands will participate in remote learning through and including Wednesday, November 25.     

This message is not intended to alarm you. We know that it is important to keep you informed during these uncertain times, while respecting federal and state laws prohibiting the disclosure of confidential medical information  

In-person learning will resume at Highlands on Monday, November 30th for attendance groups 1, IS2MW, IS4 and IS5.  We continue to work closely with the Westchester Department of Health and follow their instructions on how to maintain a safe and healthy learning environment. Ayer, el distrito   fue informado que 2 miembros de la comunidad de Highlands dieron positivo para Covid-19.  Según el rastreo de contactos del distrito y el número de estudiantes y personal que han sido puestos en cuarentena, Highlands participará en el aprendizaje remoto hasta el miércoles 25 de noviembre, incluyendo el miércoles.    

Este mensaje no pretende alarmarle. Sabemos que es importante mantenerlo informado durante estos tiempos inciertos, respetando las leyes federales y estatales que prohíben la divulgación de información médica confidencial.  

El aprendizaje en persona se reanudará en Highlands el lunes 30 de noviembre para los grupos de asistencia 1, IS2MW, IS4 e IS5.  Seguimos trabajando en estrecha colaboración con el Departamento de Salud de Westchester y seguimos sus instrucciones sobre cómo mantener un ambiente de aprendizaje seguro y saludable. Update: Nov. 16

The district learned today, November 16th that 2 members of the Highlands community have tested positive for COVID-19.

We are currently working closely with the Westchester Department of Health to identify this individual's direct contacts at the school.  Today all students will be dismissed at 1:30 PM to allow for contact tracing and to allow time for students to be safely transported home.

The Westchester Department of Health will reach out to all contacts and advise on the need to quarantine and to arrange testing of those exposed. Please note that The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other privacy laws restrict us from disclosing or confirming any personally identifiable information. We cannot identify anyone who has tested positive.

Any students or staff members who have been in close contact with this individual will be directly contacted by the District Nursing Coordinator within 24 to 48 hours to discuss how long they should self-quarantine and other health-related instructions. 

Highlands will participate in remote learning tomorrow so that all safety procedures can be followed. Hence, all students will remain home learning virtually on Tuesday, November 17. Parents by the end of the day on Tuesday about the rest of the week. We continue to work closely with the Westchester Department of Health and follow their guidance on how to maintain a safe and healthy learning environment. Students who have been directed to self-quarantine should log in remotely to all of their classes for a full day of learning until their quarantine has ended and they are cleared to return to campus for in-person instruction.

The Westchester Department of Health will reach out to all contacts and advise on the need to quarantine and arrange testing of those who may have potentially been exposed. Update: Nov. 2, 2020

The district learned on Monday, Nov. 2 that a member of the Highlands Middle School community has tested positive for COVID-19. 

Additionally, the district learned during on Sunday, Nov. 1 that a Highland Middle School bus driver has tested positive for COVID-19.

We are working closely with the Westchester Department of Health to identify these individual's contacts at the school. The Westchester Department of Health has reached out to all contacts and advise on the need to quarantine and to arrange testing of those exposed. Additionally, if you are not contacted by the Westchester Department of Health but would like to be tested, please contact 914-995-5800 to find a testing location near you or talk with your healthcare provider.

Update: Oct 30,2020

Quarantine Release 

Highlands students, who were notified that they should quarantine on October 23, will be returning to hybrid learning on Wednesday, November 4.

Los estudiantes de Highlands, a quienes se les notificó que debían ponerse en cuarentena el 23 de octubre, volverán al aprendizaje híbrido el miércoles 4 de noviembre.

UPDATE: October 23, 2020 

As we have communicated, our school was notified of a COVID-19 positive case yesterday, October 22, 2020. The district transitioned all students and staff to a remote learning model effective immediately, to allow for the required contact tracing to begin and for our custodial staff to sanitize the entire building.

Highlands Middle School will resume in-school instruction on Monday, October 26 for students scheduled for attendance groups: 1, IS4, IS5, IS2MW unless you have been notified that your child should quarantine.

Students who have been directed to self-quarantine should log in remotely to all of their classes for a full day of learning until their quarantine has ended and they are cleared to return to campus for in-person instruction.

We continue to work closely with the Westchester Department of Health and follow their guidance on how to maintain a safe and healthy learning environment.

Como hemos comunicado, nuestra escuela fue notificada de un caso positivo de COVID-19 ayer, 22 de octubre de 2020. El distrito hizo la transición de todos los estudiantes y el personal a un modelo de aprendizaje remoto con efecto inmediato, para permitir que comience el rastreo de contactos requerido y para que nuestros conserjes puedan comenzar a desinfectar todo el edificio.

Reanudaremos la instrucción en la escuela el lunes 26 de octubre para los estudiantes programados para los grupos de asistencia: 1, IS4, IS5, IS2MW a menos que se le haya notificado que su hijo debe ponerse en cuarentena.

Los estudiantes que hayan sido dirigidos a la auto cuarentena deben iniciar sesión de forma remota en todas sus clases para un día completo de aprendizaje hasta que finalice la cuarentena y estén autorizados a regresar al campus para recibir instrucción en persona.

Continuamos trabajando en estrecha colaboración con el Departamento de Salud del Condado de Westchester y seguir su orientación sobre como mantener un ambiente de aprendizaje saludable.

 

Update: Oct. 22

The district learned on Oct. 22 that a member of the Highlands Middle School community has tested positive for COVID-19.

The district will transition all students and staff from Highlands Middle School to a remote learning model effective tomorrow, Friday, October 23rd, while contact tracing is conducted. Members of the Highlands Middle School community will receive more information from Highlands administration and if additional schedule changes are required you will be notified as soon as possible. 

Health privacy laws restrict us from disclosing or confirming any personally identifiable information. We cannot identify anyone who has tested positive.
