Update Regarding Sibling Guarantee Component of School Choice Program
Update Regarding Sibling Guarantee
Component of School Choice Program
As part of the agenda for the February 13
school board meeting, the Acting Superintendent reported on the analysis by
the consultant who has been working on the Controlled Parent Choice Program
registration process, including the sibling guarantee component. As a result of the findings, it was recommended and approved to maintain the current sibling legacy guarantee for kindergarten students registering for the 2017-18 school year.
If, after evaluation of this year’s
registration process, information indicates that the sibling guarantee should
be restricted at all, that change would only affect new parents,
beginning in the Spring of 2018. The current legacy guarantee would
continue to apply for families with children enrolled prior to 2018-19.
Any possible restrictions would be based
on the evaluation of the actual impact of the legacy guarantee on the overall
first choice assignment rate, the first choice assignment rate for those with
no sibling guarantee, and the socioeconomic balance of student assignments
across the five elementary schools.
