Course Options, Expectations & Compensation

  • 15 Hour Institute Options

    Option One - “Standard Technology Institute"
    • A 15-hour "Standard Technology Institute" provides a classroom setting environment to gain a thorough understanding of the content and design an instructional product.

     

    Option Two - "Customized Technology Institute"
    • Attend three 5-hour workshops eligible for the “Customized Technology Institute”.
    • Participants should register for all three courses at the same time in MLP if possible.

     

     

    5 Hour Workshop Options

    Option One - "Stand-Alone Workshop"
    • Register for one 5-hour workshop, which focuses on a few key concepts geared toward developing expertise on how specific tools support teaching and learning. Participants are expected to develop a framework for a lesson plan which supports instruction based on their learning experience.

     

    Option Two - As 1/3 of a "Customized Technology Institute"
    • Attend three 5-hour workshops eligible for the “Customized Technology Institute”.
    • Participants should register for all three courses at the same time in MLP if possible.

     

     

    Course Expectations

    • In order to ensure that courses run, please register in My Learning Plan as soon as possible. Please read the workshop description and outcomes thoroughly.
    • If the workshop session is cancelled due to inclement weather, you must attend the rescheduled make-up session. 
    • All participants who are seeking one district credit or stipend must complete all 15 hours of the institute and complete all the required work.
    • Participants’ presentations may be videotaped for future PD purposes.

     

    Institute Compensation & Stipend Requirements

    • To receive compensation, all required course documents must be completed in Schoology no later than three months after the course has ended. The Instructional Technology Office (Lucy Roman & Monica Alvarez) must be informed when all course documents are uploaded and shared.
    • If credit is needed for salary differential, work must be submitted by October 1. If the unit or lesson(s) that is being planned is not in the curriculum map until after the 3 months, please email Coordinator of Instructional Technology, Lucy Roman.
    • Compensation cannot be granted beyond one year after course completion.
    Standard Technology Institute” submission requirements:
      • A completed online Course Evaluation
      • A completed Lesson Plan Template(s) or Project Plan Form(s) and/or all links to activities created (depending on course)
      • Plans and activities should support the use of technology to actively engage students
      • Technology should be used to facilitate the development of the concepts and skills or to demonstrate learning
      • Instruction should be differentiated, rigorous and student-centered work that uses a variety of student-based technologies
      • Lessons should address Common Core Learning Standards and effective daily instruction
      • A completed Technology Implementation Confirmation Form
      • Work products (videos, links, web site) completed in the course
    Customized Technology Institute” submission requirements:
      • A completed online Course Evaluation for each workshop
      • Completed Lesson Plan(s) or Project Plan(s) and/or all links to activities created (depending on workshops)
      • Plans and activities should support the use of technology to actively engage students

    NYS Professional Development Hours

    • Course hours can be applied toward the required Professional Development hours for teachers and teaching assistants.

     

    Auditors

    • Teachers who have at least Masters plus 60 credits and who are not seeking credit or stipend (compensation) are expected to attend all sessions and actively participate in all class activities.
