White Plains High School students shine at SkillsUSA Regionals with second-place finishes

Two White Plains High School students earned second-place medals at the SkillsUSA Area IV Regional Competition, showcasing their career and technical skills among hundreds of competitors.

Ashlee Brown Lee placed second in the Nail Care competition, while Sofia Levine earned second place in Culinary Arts during the event held Feb. 28 at the Southern Westchester BOCES Center for Career Services.

The regional competition brought together more than 500 students from 14 schools, who competed in 40 career and technical categories, ranging from Action Skills and Animal Careers to Digital Cinema Production and Culinary Arts.

In total, 18 students earned medals in 12 competitions throughout the daylong event.

Following the competitions, students, staff and families gathered for an awards ceremony at Highlands Middle School, where medalists were recognized for their achievements.

Southern Westchester BOCES Center for Career Services Principal Jaclyn De Lao served as emcee for the ceremony, where Howard Hamilton also was named SkillsUSA Advisor of the Year. For the SWBOCES post with images, click here.

With their strong performances, Ashlee and Sofia have earned eligibility to compete at the New York SkillsUSA Championships, scheduled for April 22-24 in Syracuse.
