Members of the White Plains High School Honors Ensemble and Chamber Orchestra struck all the right notes at the New York State School Music Association Majors Festival, where they earned high praise and Silver ratings.

The Honors Ensemble, directed by Zachary May, performed at the highest NYSSMA level possible, tackling Level 6 pieces on Tuesday, May 19, at Mamaroneck High School.

The Chamber Orchestra — a club made up of ninth- through 11th-grade string players directed by Joanna Smulakowski — performed at Level 4. Both groups earned Silver ratings at the festival.

Judges commended both groups for their expressive and technically strong performances, while also recognizing the exceptional quality of the ensemble and solo playing.

Adding a personal touch to the experience, the ensembles also performed an original composition by Mr. May.
