Senior White Plains High School athletes honored at 2026 Athletic Awards Night

White Plains High School celebrated the accomplishments of its graduating student-athletes during the 2026 Senior Athletic Awards Night on Wednesday evening.

The event in the balloon-festooned H Café – attended by a large crowd of students, families, coaches and staff – recognized athletic excellence, academic achievement and dedication to the Tiger community.

After introductions by Assistant Principals Sara Hall and Raegan Figueroa, Assistant Athletic Director Mike Chappas welcomed attendees and reflected on the impact athletics has had on the senior class.

“I know that you will carry with you the valuable lessons you learned on the playing field – lessons of discipline, resilience, teamwork and leadership,” Mr. Chappas said. “All of this will continue to guide you long after you leave here.”

He also asked the audience to recognize the coaches who helped shape the students’ experiences.

“Their time, commitment and sacrifices have played an essential role in shaping your experience here,” he said.

Mr. Chappas highlighted another successful year for White Plains athletics, noting that the district recorded 27 scholar-athlete teams, 461 individual scholar-athletes, 104 All-League selections, 10 All-League honorable mentions, 20 All-Section athletes and one All-Region honorable mention.

“These numbers are a true reflection of your hard work, talent and pride that defines you as a Tiger,” Mr. Chappas said. “Congratulations to all of our seniors. You’ve set a powerful example for those who will follow in your footsteps.”

The evening included remarks from student-athletes Neela Older and William McDermott.

Reflecting on what it means to be a Tiger, Neela focused on the relationships and lessons gained through athletics.

“The first thing I thought of wasn’t my numbers or the stats that I accumulated over these four years, but the people I met and the experiences we share,” she said. “It was the stuff that I learned through every match and every day. It was the girls I grew up with and it was the coaches who put the time and effort into making me a better person.”

William spoke about the role athletics played in helping him find a home at WPHS.

“As athletes, we put ourselves through so much physical struggle, but the friendships and memories we have with our teammates make it all worth it,” he said. 

“Like you, I will cherish the memories of my time as a Tiger for the rest of my life,” William said. “The experience we’ve all had in White Plains shaped us and made us ready for whatever the future holds. I will forever be proud to say, go Tigers!”

Charlie Jenkins Memorial Scholarship – Neela Older  

Female Scholar Athlete Award – Eliana Lieber

Male Scholar Athlete Award – Francis Fokoue Nkoutche 

The Twelve Season Athlete Award – Declan Brown, Jamaal Wells, Patrick Cave, Max Barrera, William McDermott, Isaiah Doliner, Sophia Levine and Vincent Poon.

The ceremony concluded with all award recipients being called forward to receive plaques commemorating their achievements, bringing an inspiring evening of recognition and celebration to a close.
