Rochambeau students spread Chalk the Walk suicide-prevention message

Three girls sit on sidewalk near chalk writing

For mental health awareness month, Amanda Grant's health classes at Rochambeau Alternative High School participated in the Westchester County Suicide Prevention Coalition’s Chalk the Walk initiative, writing messages of hope and encouragement outside of the school building. Community members passing by stopped to read the uplifting messages. The initiative is aimed at reducing the stigma surrounding conversations about mental health while reminding others that even small acts can have a big impact.

A chalk drawing of a rainbow and cloud is on a sidewalk, with the words "There's a light at the end of every storm" and grass drawn in the foreground.
Chalk drawings of a smiley face and the words "You Matter" are on the sidewalk in the foreground, with a grassy strip and a street in the background.
Chalk drawings on a concrete sidewalk in the foreground read "NAMI WESTCHESTER CHALK THE WALK 2026 ROCHAMBEAU," with the background being the textured gray concrete itself.
A person's hands are drawing the words "YOU MATTER" in pastel chalk on a sidewalk, with the chalk dust and sidewalk texture visible in the foreground and a blurred background.
