Break a leg! Post Road fifth graders put on a dazzling performance for the rest of the school today in their Beyond Broadway production. Students performed songs from the popular Broadway shows “The Pajama Game,” “Cats,” “Hamilton,” “Alladin,” and “Beauty and the Beast.”

Instructors from Dance Cavise visited the school in the lead up to the performance, practicing each song with the students. The program exposes the children to musical theater in New York, where Joe Cavise, owner of Dance Cavise, has a musical theater background and performed in “Cats.”

“I talked to the kids about what it's like being a professional performer,” said Mr. Cavise. “The kids love it. There's just no negative about it.
It's 100% inclusive… Everybody gets a job. Everybody is involved.
Everybody gets a special bow at the end, one at a time. It makes them feel like a star;
It builds their confidence. It just helps them focus.”

While students are new to performing, Mr. Cavise reassures them that any stumbles along the way are natural and just lead to growth – a lesson they can take into the classroom long after Beyond Broadway.

“One important thing that I tell the children is that mistakes are good, because you learn from them, and you become better from making mistakes,” he said. “Don't be afraid of that.”
