Future opportunities on display at Post Road's College and Career Day

Post Road Elementary School students took a step into the professional world and learned about careers and education opportunities during College and Career Day today and Thursday.

On Thursday, kindergarten students rotated through classrooms, learning about different jobs that they can pursue in the future. They heard about careers in the medical field, construction, professional sports, music, and cooking. 

After the lessons, they completed activities to get an idea of what each career was like. They tried their hand at medicine with replica medical instruments, created maracas to make their own music, played different sports, and tried different foods to learn about flavors they might cook with. 

On Friday, parents from all over the career spectrum visited Post Road to share their work with students. Among these were a doctor, nurse, police officer and business owner. They presented about their careers, brought visual demonstrations and answered students’ questions. Teachers also shared their experiences and led students through college and career related activities — such as Career Bingo — all day. 

Workers who support the White Plains community also came to the school to speak to students. The White Plains Fire Department came with their firetruck on Wednesday and officers from the White Plains Police Department visited on Friday. Students ended the week with a greater understanding of colleges and careers that can help motivate them as they continue their education.
