Preparing Our Schools for Success: Mamaroneck Avenue School gets a makeover

Mamaroneck Avenue School Principal Robert Janowitz has shared an enthusiastic update about the summer renovations underway that he said will make “MAS an even better place to learn and grow.”

“I am incredibly proud of our MAS community and the remarkable transformation of our school building,” Mr. Janowitz said Monday. “Over the past few years, we’ve made meaningful changes to create a safe, welcoming, and joyful environment for our students, families, and staff.

“This summer, that progress continues as we work toward making MAS an even better place to learn and grow,” he added.

The hallways will be transformed with “new flooring, tiling and lighting that beautifully complement the orange cubbies installed last year,” the principal said. “Our Class of 2025 donated a beautiful mural to create excitement and wonder through the hallway leading to the art rooms.”

Meanwhile, the “library is getting a full makeover to become a warm, engaging space that encourages exploration and a love for learning,” Mr. Janowitz continued.

Students also will be greeted with a tasty renovation of the food service area, which will improve the dining experience by increasing efficiency and functionality of the cafeteria.

An ADA-compliant elevator also is being installed to provide access to the music rooms.

And outside, the playground “lawn is being leveled to improve drainage and make the space more usable and enjoyable for all our Tigers,” the principal said.

“These upgrades reflect our shared commitment to excellence. We want every Tiger to feel at home in their school and walk through the halls with pride. Thank you for being part of this journey — together, we are building something truly special,” he added.

The work at Mamaroneck Avenue School is part of the renovations underway in varying degrees at other schools in the district.

In 2022, voters approved the expenditure of $71.4 million for the renovations, improvements and new educational space taking place under Phase I at the elementary schools, White Plains High School and Rochambeau Alternative High School.

The district partnered with architects from H2M and Triton Construction managers to develop the Long-Range Facilities Master Plan, which laid out its vision for the buildings and grounds.
