Over 230 Class of 2026 seniors receive prestigious Seal of Civic Readiness in ceremony at WPHS

Students in the Class of 2026 are ready to make their mark on the world beyond graduation, and White Plains High School was proud to celebrate approximately 240 students earning the New York State Seal of Civic Readiness this morning. This was the largest group of recipients in school history and, for the first time, included eight students from Rochambeau Alternative High School. Students and their families were treated to a breakfast before being recognized for their achievements.

The Seal of Civic Readiness recognizes students for their civic knowledge, leadership, service, and commitment to making a positive impact within their schools and communities.

“This recognition reflects the incredible work our students are already doing to strengthen their communities and engage as active citizens both inside and outside the classroom,” said Coordinator of Social Studies Emory Davis, who facilitated the ceremony. “We are incredibly proud of their leadership, dedication and commitment to civic engagement.”

The Seal, which students have been working towards since middle school, comes with a tassel to be worn at graduation and a stamp on their diploma. Students were commended for their accomplishment by WPHS Principal Emerly Martinez, Rochambeau Director Khali Murrell, White Plains Mayor Justin Brasch and County Executive Ken Jenkins, before being called up to the stage to receive their tassels.

The White Plains Civic Seal Team — Ms. Weston, Ms. Brumer, Ms. Crowley, Mr. Rickels, Ms. Tinampay, Ms. Harrison, Ms. Ocampo, Ms. Minaya, Ms. Zafar, Ms. Nguy, and Mrs. Archer along with counselors, teachers, administrators, and community partners — supported to help make this achievement possible for so many students.
