Officer Jasmine Albert named New York State School Resource Officer of the Year

White Plains Police Officer Jasmine Albert has been named the School Resource Officer of the Year by the State of New York Police Juvenile Officers Association, recognizing her commitment to the students, families and school community she serves.

As one of the White Plains Department of Public Safety’s School Resource Officers, Officer Albert has focused on building positive relationships with young people, earning their trust and serving as a dependable resource within the schools.

The White Plains Department of Public Safety praised Officer Albert for the professionalism, compassion and dedication she brings to her work and said the honor reflects the important role SROs play in supporting students and school communities.

“On behalf of the entire White Plains Department of Public Safety, we congratulate Officer Albert on this well-deserved recognition and thank her for the professionalism, compassion and dedication she brings to our schools and our community,” the department said in announcing the award.

Officer Albert said that for her, the award is not about personal recognition.

"Sometimes when I’m walking through the halls, I have to remind myself just how full-circle this really is. Before the uniform, before the badge, and long before this award, I was just a kid walking these same hallways," she said. "Some of the teachers I pass today are the same ones who watched me grow up, and now they get to watch me pour into the students coming behind me. There’s something really special about that. These schools are part of my story, so being trusted to become part of these kids’ stories means a lot to me.

"I genuinely love what I do. The conversations, the laughs, the tough moments, the small wins, and simply being someone they know is in their corner," she continued. "This award is an incredible honor, but the part that means the most is knowing life brought me right back to where part of my own story began … only this time, I’m here to pour back into the place that once poured into me."

Officer Albert added: "I used to walk these halls wondering who I would become. Now I walk them hoping to help someone else discover who they can become."

The WPCSD congratulates Officer Albert on the statewide recognition and thanks her for her continued service to the White Plains school community.

Mayor Justin Brasch commented on the White Plains Public Safety Facebook page: "Congratulations Jasmine. I have been honored to know you for years. Thank you for your service to our city and particularly to our youth."
