•    The students will study 11 major units through the school year.  I have listed them below with a brief summary in the order they will be taught.
     
    The Movement West- Students will learn about the migration westward, the reasons for this mass migration, and the conflicts that resulted with Native Americans.
     
    The Rise of Industries- Students will learn about growing factories in American cities and abroad.  They will understand the impacts on society and the rise of big business tycoons.
     
    Immigration- Students will learn about the various groups of individuals that set out for America in search of a better life.  They will also understand the impacts of immigration on American urban and rural life.
     
    The Progressive Era- Students will learn about the corruption exposed by muckrakers in the late 1800's and early 1900's.  They will also understand the improvements that took place as a result of this new found knowledge.
     
    U.S. Expansion- Students will learn about the expansion of the United States abroad and the way in which various foreign lands were conquered. Furthermore, they will understand the future impacts of acquiring these lands.
     
    propagandaWWI- Students will learn about the causes of WWI in Europe and how the United States became involved.  Also, they will understand the impact of the United States entering the war and how the conclusion of the war in part led to WWII.
     
    flapperThe Roaring 20's- Student will learn about the rising economy during this decade and how the economy was able to prosper.  Furthermore, the will be able to understand the conflicts that occurred in the 20's and the impacts of prohibition.
     
    hooverThe Great Depression- Students will learn about the causes that led to the Great Depression, the impacts throughout the country, and the solutions to the causes.
     
    abombWWII- Students will learn about the causes of WWII in Europe and how the U.S. eventually became involved.  They will also learn about the significance of U.S. involvement in the war.
     
    stalinThe Cold War- Students will learn about the struggle between the U.S. and the Soviet Union over the spreading of communism.  Furthermore, they will understand the coflicts that arose throughout the world over this issue.
     
    mlkThe Civil Rights Movement- Students will learn about various people and organizations that fought for the rights of African Americans during the 1960's.
