    Dear Class,

We will be learning many new math concepts and will also be applying math ideas that you have been introduced to throughout your schooling.  I look forward to the many discoveries that you will make this year.  On the other side of this letter you will find the class policies and expectations.  Please read the information carefully and sign the bottom of the page.  Also, have a parent/guardian read and sign the page.

I have listed below some supplies that you will need for math class.  Many of these supplies you may have already purchased.  If you still need to gather some, please be sure to have them in class by Tuesday.

    I.  Homework Policy

¨       Homework must be completed in its entirety in order to receive credit for the assignment.  Assignments will be an extension of classroom activities. However, in the event that there are questions that are of particular difficulty that you are unable to complete at the time, evidence of attempting the problem must be presented.  As long as I know you tried to complete the assignment you will receive full credit. Ten points per day after ten days you can get 100 just for doing your homework!

¨       There will be assignments that I collect and grade. You will be told when I give the assignment that it will be a grade.

    II.  Grading Policy

    Tests………………………………………………………………………………45 %

    Quizzes………………………………………………………………….......... 20 %

    III.  Expectations

    1.  Students are expected to show respect to classmates, adults, and property.

    2.  Students are expected to arrive to class on time, prepared with the necessary materials.

    3.  Students are expected to participate during class.  There are many ways to illustrate classroom participation.  Being prepared with the necessary supplies counts toward your participation grade.  Other ways to participate include answering, as well as asking questions during class and working cooperatively with your peers.  All class work will be counted towards your participation grade.

    4.  Students are expected to complete all homework assignments.  It is expected that students come for extra help when there is difficulty with math concepts.

    5.  Students will be given POWs (Problems of the Week) pertaining to math topics discussed in class.  Students will have one week to complete POWs.  It is expected that students follow the steps used in class to complete the POWs.

    6.  Students will be expected to maintain a section in their binder for math which is an essential resource for learning.  Students will receive a notebook grade as described above.

I have read and understand the information above about supplies, homework policy, and grading procedures.  Please fill out the last page with your parents or guardians and return it to me by Tuesday.  This will count as your first homework assignment. Thank you!
