We are open to all White Plains students in grades 6, 7, and 8 from both Highlands and Eastview.Please read the bulletin for further announcements.If you have a community service project, girl scout or boy scout project, and need helpers, or a group of students to work with, let me know.2011-2012 Year:We researched and wrote letters about HR 3599 Animal welfare Act, for or against the use of elephants in traveling circuses.Back pack Drive - Every Backpack Counts! Collected over 60 backpacks for Midnight Run.Set up and decorated for "Snowfest" 6th grade multicultural holiday party.Valentines and tray favors for Blythdale Children's HospitalValentines to non-teaching staffOpen Arms shelter - baking for the homeless and othersPS I love You Day postersVisit from United Way Youth Volunteer CenterArbor Day program and CelebrationSpring plantingSpring Cleanup2010-2011 Year:Backpack Drive Every backpack Counts -We collected over 150 backpacks! Thank you Highlands and Eastview! The back packs were filled with necessities and our own hand made cards and given out to the homeless on Christmas Day by Midnight Run.Halloween Goody Bags - We filled 95 goody bags with candy and toys and handmade cards and donated them to Blythdale Children's Hospital.Soldier Letter Writing Campaign - We met with Mr. Sanchez, who just returned from an 18 month deployment, who told us of his experience and how we could support the troops. We then wrote holiday letters and cards and collected toiletries to send to the troops.Service Dog - We met with Molly and her human partner from READ, who reads with elementary age children, and learned how animals contribute to our wellbeing.Open Arms Shelter- Girl Scout Ali Tretter worked with our students to prepare delicious sedimentary rock cookies for the men at Open Arms Shelter in White Plains. We had to taste them first to make sure they were good!Nursing Home - We decorated placements for nursing home residents to brighten their meal.Meals on Wheels - we made tray favors for meals on wheelsSpring Cleanup - We had a great time cleaning up garbage from the outside of the school, and then had a big party to celebrate!Community Service Club has finished meeting for this year, but stay tuned next year.If you need helpers or have community service ideas please let me know.
