    Enjoy the summer! Keep reading and practicing your math to prepare for fourth grade!

    On Friday, June 10th, our own Daisy Moore was superintendent for the day. She visited our classroom with Dr. Ricca and a news crew. Daisy told the class about her schedule for the day, and she and Dr. Ricca were treated to a special performance of our class plays. I also presented the class with a framed certificate from IXL acknowledging their great achievement of answering over 100,000 questions. It has a special place of honor on the classroom wall.

    This is the link to see Daisy in action! https://www.cbsnews.com/newyork/news/daisy-moore-white-plains-superintendent-for-a-day-child/

    The class has to start to write an autobiography. An autobiography is the story of a person's life that is written by that person. The children are expected to write their own life story!

    I suggested writing one paragraph about each year of their lives. I told the class to speak with parents or relatives to give them information about the years they can't remember. This assignment is to be handwritten by your child, NOT TYPED. It is to be done in their reading notebooks because this is an extension of a reading lesson. That lesson explained that we read expository text differently than we read narrative nonfiction. Their autobiographies are their chance to explore narrative nonfiction in a very personal and detailed manner.

    The children are to complete a current events paragraph every school night. The directions are simple. They may NOT use a story that has violence. We are NOT using stories in which people or animals are hurt. They are to write one sentence for each of the 5 w's. Both of these directions were explained to the children.

    The 5w's are who, what, when, where, why and how. They all have MULTIPLE scholastic news magazines that they may use to complete this assignment. They may also, under parental guidance, use television or internet news.

    The children may not be able to find the answer to all 5w's. That is fine. They should answer what they can. More than one paragraph is HIGHLY DISCOURAGED. The children will write this paragraph in their Social Studies notebook. This should take ten or fifteen minutes. If you are writing for this assignment longer than 15 minutes, you are writing too much!

    The children should have completed their memorization of the multiplication facts on 11/5/21.

    In math, we have started using our "Additional Practice" workbook as homework. You can expect your child to have a page from this book for homework EVERY NIGHT.

    Each page must have the front and back completed. I explained that I only give homework for concepts that I have taught, so they are expected to at least TRY every problem, and use the strategies that they were taught.

    Additionally, the children also must complete the reading log every night. Please check your child's homework and help them if they need help.

    Students should also continue memorizing the multiplication facts.

    I am advising all parents to check your child's grades and work in Schoology. This will help you understand how your child is doing before the report card goes home.

    Your child should have memorized the single digit multiplication facts that have factors of 0, 1, 2, 5, 9, and 10.

    We highligted those facts on a multiplication chart. Then we made a list of the facts that were not highlighted. There are 15 of them. We will memorize one fact each night and in 15 days we will have memorized the multiplication facts. I put the date next to the fact to keep us on track!

    Here is the list:

    3x3=9, Friday 10/22

    4x4=16, 10/23

    6x6=36, 10/24

    7x7=49, 10/25

    8x8=64, 10/26

    4x3=3x4=12 10/27

    6x3=3x6=18 10/28

    6x4=4x6=24 10/29

    7x3=3x7=21 10/30

    7x4=4x7=28 10/31

    8x3=3x8=24 11/1

    8x4=4x8=32 11/2

    7x6=6x7=42 11/3

    8x6=6x8=48 11/4

    8x7=7x8=56 11/5

    The children have an ongoing homework assignment to memorize their address and parents' cell phone numbers. I wrote them in the notebooks of the students who needed them.

    Every night the children have to read for at least 15 minutes and complete the reading log.

    The children were taught how to use their hands as a fact calculator for the nine times table. Ask your child to show you how to do this!

    Hey parents! Did you log into Schoology to see your child's grades to date? You use your child's password in the username and password fields to get into schoology.

    You can also have your child show you how to log into Savvas Easybridge to see her/his daily quick check grades! You get there through Clever.-Mr. Cromer

    Emails received after school hours will be answered during the next school day.

    Important! Please be sure your child's first name and last initial are entered in ZOOM when you set it up. No nicknames!!! This is for security so that I don't let in anyone who isn't in the class. I will only be allowing students in the zoom meeting. Thanks for your help in keeping the children's learning environment safe.

    Work with your child on becoming fluent with the multiplication facts. This is the heart of the Third Grade Math Curriculum. Your child is fluent when she/he can correctly answer 30 different single digit multiplication facts in 100 seconds or less!

    The 2 times tables are listed below as examples to know the format of how the multiplication facts should be written and studied.

    2x0=0, 2x1=2, 2x2=4, 2x3=6, 2x4=8, 2x5=10, 2x6=12, 2x7=14, 2x8=16, 2x9=18, 2x10=20, 2x11=22, 2x12=24

    Reading-Students are to read a book of their choice for 30 minutes nightly.

    Students are expected to keep a record of their reading in their Reading Log every day! Before school starts you should ask your child to answer the "5w's" and "how" about their reading. The 5w's are who, what, when, where and why.

     Other homework is for parents to check their child's knowledge of the addition and subtraction facts listed below.

    PARENT HOMEWORK:
    All homework and tests with a grade should be signed by parents and returned to school the next day.

    Please help your child by making sure she/he has 5 notebooks,a notebook for each subject (Math, Reading, Writing, Science and Social Studies) a pencil sharpener, a class folder(never leaves the room) and a homework folder(goes home nightly).

    BEFORE SCHOOL STARTS

    Reading-Students are to read a book of their choice for 30 minutes nightly. Yes, you just saw it above but this is SOOOOOO important that I put it here so that you know this should be done NOW!

    Students are expected to keep a record of their reading in their Reading Log every day! Before school starts you should ask your child to answer the "5w's" and "how" about their reading. The 5w's are who, what, when, where and why.

    Math-The children should have memorized the single digit addition facts that give a sum of 10.
    Remember, addend + addend = sum
    They are: 0+10=10, 1+9=10, 2+8=10, 3+7=10, 4+6=10, 5+5=10, 6+4=10, 7+3=10, 8+2=10, 9+1=10 and 10+0=10.

    They should also recognize the subtraction facts with the same digits. They are: 10-0=10, 10-1=9, 10-2=8, 10-3=7, 10-4=6, 10-5=5, 10-6=4, 10-7=3, 10-8=2, 10-9=1, 10-10=0

    This will help them greatly as we work our way through the Third Grade math curriculum.

    This is the top priority before school begins. Please work with your child to help her/him memorize these addition and subtraction facts before the school year starts.

    This will help your child better understand the more complex concepts. They will have a lot of difficulty with the math concepts if they do not have these addition and subtraction facts memorized.

    If your child has memorized these addition and subtraction facts, encourage them to start memorizing the multiplication facts. This will help them greatly as they work through the math lessons.

    This page is updated as needed during the school year to help you stay aware of your child's homework and classroom activities. I encourage you to use it as a reliable resource to help you help your child.

    ¡A LOS PADRES DE LA CLASE DEL SR. CROMER DE 2021-2022!

    Bienvenido a nuestra página web de clase. Esta página de la tarea se actualiza según sea necesario para mantenerlo al tanto de las tareas de su hijo.

    ¡Importante! Asegúrese de que el nombre y la última inicial de su hijo se introduzcan en ZOOM cuando lo configure. Sin apodos!!! Esto es por seguridad para que no deje entrar a nadie que no esté en la clase. Sólo permitiré a los estudiantes en la reunión de zoom. Gracias por su ayuda para mantener el entorno de aprendizaje de los niños seguro.

    Trabaje con su hijo para ser fluido con los hechos de multiplicación. Este es el corazón del Currículo de Matemáticas de Tercer Grado. Su hijo habla con fluidez cuando puede responder correctamente 30 hechos de multiplicación de un solo dígito diferentes en 100 segundos o menos!

    Las tablas de 2 veces se enumeran a continuación como ejemplos para conocer el formato de cómo se deben escribir y estudiar los hechos de multiplicación.

    2x0=0, 2x1=2, 2x2=4, 2x3=6, 2x4=8, 2x5=10, 2x6=12, 2x7=14, 2x8=16, 2x9=18, 2x10=20, 2x11=22, 2x12=24

    Los estudiantes de lectura deberán leer un libro de su elección durante 30 minutos por noche.

    ¡Se espera que los estudiantes mantengan un registro de su lectura en su registro de lectura todos los días! Antes de que comience la escuela, usted debe pedirle a su hijo que responda a los "5w's" y "cómo" acerca de su lectura. Los 5w son quién, qué, cuándo, dónde y por qué.

    Otra tarea es que los padres verifiquen el conocimiento de sus hijos sobre los hechos de suma y resta que se enumeran a continuación.

    PADRES:

    Todos los deberes y exámenes con un grado deben ser firmados por los padres y devueltos a la escuela al día siguiente.

    Por favor, ayude a su hijo asegurándose de que tiene 5 cuadernos, un cuaderno para cada tema (Matemáticas, Lectura, Escritura, Ciencia y Estudios Sociales) un sacapuntas, una carpeta de clase (nunca sale de la habitación) y una carpeta de tareas (se va a casa todas las noches).

    ANTES DE QUE COMIENCE LA ESCUELA

    Los estudiantes de lectura deberán leer un libro de su elección durante 30 minutos por noche. Sí, lo acabas de ver arriba, pero esto es SOOOOOO importante que lo puse aquí para que sepas que esto debe hacerse AHORA!

    ¡Se espera que los estudiantes mantengan un registro de su lectura en su registro de lectura todos los días! Antes de que comience la escuela, usted debe pedirle a su hijo que responda a los "5w's" y "cómo" acerca de su lectura. Los 5w son quién, qué, cuándo, dónde y por qué.

    Matemáticas-Los niños deberían haber memorizado los hechos de adición de un solo dígito que dan una suma de 10.

    Recuerde, addend + addend - sum

    Son: 0+10=10, 1+9=10, 2+8=10, 3+7=10, 4+6=10, 5+5=10, 6+4=10, 7+3=10, 8+2=10, 9+1=10 and 10+0=10.

    También deben reconocer los hechos de resta con los mismos dígitos. Son: 10-0=10, 10-1=9, 10-2=8, 10-3=7, 10-4=6, 10-5=5, 10-6=4, 10-7=3, 10-8=2, 10-9=1, 10-10=0

    Esto les ayudará en gran medida a medida que trabajemos a través del plan de estudios de matemáticas de tercer grado.

    Esta es la máxima prioridad antes de que comience la escuela. Por favor, trabaje con su hijo para ayudarlo a memorizar estos hechos de suma y resta antes de que comience el año escolar.

    Esto ayudará a su hijo a entender mejor los conceptos más complejos. Tendrán mucha dificultad con los conceptos matemáticos si no tienen estos hechos de suma y resta memorizados.

    Si su hijo ha memorizado estos hechos de suma y resta, anímelo a comenzar a memorizar los hechos de multiplicación. Esto les ayudará mucho a medida que trabajen a través de las lecciones de matemáticas.

    Esta página se actualiza según sea necesario durante el año escolar para ayudarle a mantenerse al tanto de la tarea y las actividades en el salón de clases de su hijo. Le animo a usarlo como un recurso confiable para ayudarle a ayudar a su hijo.
