The White Plains High School
Black Awareness Club
The mission of the Black Awareness Club is to provide an environment which encourages discussions and activities of interest to those who wish to learn more about the history, contribution and accomplishments of the people of African Heritage.
Our club reaches a wide ethnic audience. The emphasis is on the development of philosophies, values, which may be of benefit to the club members and our community. We stress the fact that we are not only black in February, encouraging our club members to study their heritage so that they can have a strong knowledge of who they are and where they come from.
We celebrate the African Diaspora and are committed on a daily basis to creating
- A full understanding of our history,
- A respect for our diversity
- An acknowledgement on every level that we are one people despite having been placed on different shores and living in different cultural arenas
* a dialogue where we can come to a full understanding of our ancestral/cultural heritage.
