Parents' Bill of Rights for Data Privacy & Security
The State Education Dept has created a Data Security Bill of Rights, in order to comply with a July 29 deadline imposed by the Legislature. It can be accessed at http://www.p12.nysed.gov/docs/parents-bill-of-rights.pdf.
In accordance with the same law, the District is working on a local version, though no guidelines have yet been provided about what is required by the statute or by regulation. Please know that, regardless of how the State's requirements work out, we already hold your privacy and data security concerns in the highest regard. In the spring we reviewed all of our contracts with outside data providers to ensure that any and all personal data for students, families, or teachers is NOT shared with any other vendors or entities, that personal data CAN be deleted at our request, and that personal data is NOT stored permanently. Securing privacy is not an easy process due to the layers of complexity involved, however we will continue to monitor this issue with all of our vendors.
