•      This course is designed for students who passed the equivalent of the New York State Regents Comprehensive Examination in their previous year of Italian study while consistently maintaining an average of “B” or better throughout the year. The Honors students will continue to develop their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills as they reinforce their control of the language’s fundamental grammatical framework and expand the range of their vocabulary and communicative structures. Complementing the indispensable ongoing study and practice of contemporary standard Italian, a wide-ranging exploration of Italy’s modern social and literary culture will enrich the students’ experience inside and outside the classroom. A variety of instructional materials and realia, included but not limited to modern literary works (in excerpts), print journalism, music, movies, television and the Internet, will be employed in additional to the course textbook.
