The WPHS Jazz Band participated in the Essentially Ellington Regional Jazz Fest hosted at Greenwich High School on March 25. The band performed for an audience including members of the public, other high school jazz bands, and judges who were professional jazz musicians from the Jazz at Lincoln Center Big Band. After the performance, the students received a clinic from one of the judges, listened to other high school bands perform, and saw a performance given by the judges. The following WPHS students received awards at the festival for their excellent musicianship: Outstanding Section - Elana Hausknecht, Hypathia Gonzalez, and Justin Baez (trombones) Awarded for their excellent playing on "How High the Moon" by Morgan Lewis, and "Carnegie Blues" by Duke Ellington. Outstanding Soloist - Dan DeGenaro (guitar) Awarded for his solo on "Boom Boom" by John Lee Hooker.
