Welcome to the Department of Multilingual Learners
Dual Language (DL)
Dual Language education is an effective approach to developing language proficiency and literacy in English and a partner language. Two-Way Immersion, one type of dual language education, integrates native English speakers and native speakers of another language for academic content instruction through both English and the partner language beginning in elementary schools.
English as a New Language (ENL)
In each of our elementary schools, collaborative model classrooms allow for the classroom and ENL teachers to co-plan lessons that will be presented to the whole class during a 45-minute segment. For beginning level learners who need double service periods, stand-alone instruction is provided, when ELLs leave the classroom and spend time with ENL teachers who focus on skills such as vocabulary and conceptual development.
Transitional Bilingual Education (TBE)
Transitional Bilingual Education (TBE) is a way to support ELL students.
