Senior Roland Nkansah found his stride at Rochambeau Alternative High School

For much of his childhood and teenage years, change was a constant for Roland Nkansah. He moved from city to city, school to school, adapting to new environments, new classmates and new routines while trying to find his footing. The instability weighed on him mentally and emotionally, he said, leaving him searching for a place where he finally felt supported and understood. That place turned out to be Rochambeau Alternative High School.

Team Flow Bag captures first place in WPHS INCubatoredu Final Pitch Night

The pressure was on and the stakes were high at White Plains High School’s INCubatoredu Final Pitch Night on Wednesday, when the Flow Bag team came out on top with a winning idea that combined confidence and business savvy to solve a real-world problem. The four students – Neela Older, Amanda Ramos, Kelly Tirado and Layla Hanbali – created the discreet and practical organizer for period products and captivated the five judges in the school auditorium.

White Plains educators awarded for outstanding service at tenure celebration

White Plains City School District educators were recognized and rewarded for years of high-quality service to students at this year's tenure celebration yesterday evening, where 38 teachers were awarded with tenure. Teachers were highlighted with a video, showcasing their achievement and highlighting their teaching journey, before the Board of Education voted to approve tenure. Click here to watch the video!

Tiger Fest brings Eastview Middle School together through fun and competition

From obstacle course races and board games to firefighting and police demonstrations to trivia contests, Eastview Middle School students spent Friday  building memories and strengthening friendships during the school’s lively Tiger Fest celebration. Held twice each year, the community-building event transformed the campus into a festival atmosphere filled with athletic challenges, team activities and interactive games designed to bring students and staff together outside the classroom.

AVID students at WPHS bring futures into focus at College & Career Fair

Hundreds of White Plains High School students mapped out their futures Friday during the annual AVID College & Career Fair, a bustling showcase of college dreams, career ambitions and real-world life skills. From presentations on universities, nursing and pediatrics to investing, housing and political science, students in the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program spent months researching their topics before presenting them to classmates and visiting middle school students.

Holocaust survivor's powerful testimony leaves lasting impact on Highlands students

Holocaust survivor Sami Steigmann shared memories of a childhood shaped by unimaginable cruelty during a moving assembly Wednesday at Highlands Middle School, where he brought to life a lifetime dedicated to teaching others about resilience, humanity and the dangers of hatred. Through both sorrowful recollections and messages of hope, Mr. Steigmann guided students through his extraordinary journey from surviving a Nazi labor camp in Transnistria during the Holocaust to rebuilding his life across several countries before ultimately settling in New York City.

Middle school students honored at National Junior Honor Society Induction Ceremony

More than 150 students were honored during the annual National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) Induction Ceremony, which was held recently at Highlands Middle School. The event -- which recognized outstanding students for their academic achievement, leadership and service -- was supported by Superintendent Dr. Joseph Ricca, Highlands Principal Joseph Spero and Eastview Principal Leroy Dixon.

The WPHS INCubatoredu Program will host its exciting "Pitch Night 2026" at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2026, in the auditorium, where student entrepreneurs will take center stage to pitch their original business ideas to a panel of "Tiger Sharks," a la "Shark Tank."

More than Band-Aids: The real work of White Plains City School District nurses

It's National Nurses Week! Ask most people what a school nurse does, they will likely say the medical providers hand out ice packs, check temperatures and bandage wounds. But the nurses in the White Plains City School District are quick to point out that this diagnosis is way off the mark. In reality, the role is less “Band-Aid station” and more frontline medical provider, public health official, counselor, educator and emergency responder all rolled into one, often operating alone in a building with hundreds of students and staff.

WPHS senior Julia Vieira's ASL TikTok videos earn notice from upstate college

White Plains High School senior Julia Vieira turned her passion for creating American Sign Language content on TikTok into a standout moment in her college journey. Julia, who is not deaf, received a glowing acceptance letter from the University of Rochester in the upstate New York city, which is known for its large and vibrant deaf community because of the National Technical Institute for the Deaf.

White Plains High School students earn national recognition for community service impact

A total of 137 White Plains High School students have been honored on the national level in the eighth-annual Community Service Impact Awards for turning compassion into action. Together, the WPHS students logged more than 11,031 hours of community service, earning the prestigious Emerald School Impact Award — a distinction given to schools surpassing 2,000 collective hours of service.
