Early Dismissal Reminder:  Grade 6-12 students will be dismissed on Wednesday, December 7th at 11:30 am.
 
Select Choir:  Select Choir will meet Tuesday, December 6 after school until 3:15. Attendance is mandatory!
 
Roaring Readers Book Club:  The next Roaring Readers Book Club meeting will be Thursday, December 8. Please see Ms. Ciofolo for a copy of the book.
 
Programming Club:  Programming Club will meet Thursday, December 8th in Room 206 at 2:30.

Intramural Boys’ Lacrosse:  Dates December: 8, 9, 14, 15, 16, 21, 22 and January: 5, 6, 12, 13, 18, 19 - We will meet in the Cafeteria.  Equipment you will need: helmet, stick, and gloves.  If you don’t have equipment, we will provide it for you, to borrow for the day.  Dress Warm; we plan to go outside!!!
 
Intramural Floor Hockey:  Dates: 12/6, 12, 13, 19, 20, 1/3, 9, 10, 17, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27 - Meet coach Armogida in the Cafeteria.  We will be utilizing indoor gym space when available, or using the NEW fitness room or blacktop outside.
 
Scholastic Bookfair:  Our annual Scholastic Book Fair will be held in the library December 12-16.  All CL and Read180 classes will be scheduled to visit the fair.  During the book fair the library will not be available for individual students to come down and work during lunch/recess time.  I will be distributing brochures with some of the selections available at the fair and there is a link to the electronic brochure on the front page of the library web site.  Visit the website by clicking here.  See you at the fair!  
 
8th Grade Trip to Washington D.C.:  Registration for the 8th grade trip to Washington, D.C. (May 11-12) is NOW open!  The deadline for the first deposit was last Thursday!  GOOD NEWS: There is still space and time for you to register.  See Mrs. Holder or Mrs. Spiconardi TODAY!!!  All forms can be obtained from the Main Office, Room 116 and Room 316!  Information is also listed on the Highlands website.  You must bring your registration form, behavior contract and payment of $105 (check or money order--NO CASH) to Room 316 OR Room 116.
 
Yearbook Sales:  Pre-order NOW for a discounted rate of $23, as of March 1st , 2017 - rate will increase to $25.  The only way to secure a yearbook is to pre-order before March 1st, 2017.  Once pre-order sales have closed, books will be available in very limited numbers.

Homework Center:  Available Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays in the Media Center from 2:40-4:15 pm.  Students may sign up in the cafeteria during lunch and meet in the Media Center hallway after school.  Students must have work (including quiet reading) and stay for the full session.

Special Needs PTA Workshop:  The White Plains Special Education Department and Special Needs PTA invite you to a morning workshop, Understanding Your Child’s IEP.  This workshop covers the nature and purpose of the IEP, the various components of the IEP, and a careful analysis of the IEP form itself.  Getting a grasp on the IEP empowers parents to more appropriately assess their child’s education program, and to take a position with regard to the need for changes in the program.  The workshop takes place on Wednesday, Dec. 14th, at 9:00 AM Education House Assembly Room - Free and Open to All.  For more information, please contact Deborah Augarten, Asst. WP PTA Book Donations Needed:  If you are fall cleaning - DON'T give away those Summer Reading (K-12) and TEST PREP books.  Contact Caroline Furry,dfurrywitt@netzero.com or Caroline Staab staabcaro@yahoo.com, and you can drop off at their homes for the May 2017 PTA FREE Book Celebration!  In addition, if you would like to join our committee and support literacy please let us know.  We are always looking for enthusiastic volunteers!   Please no pre-K, coffee table books and/or reference books.

My Brother's Keeper Summit @ Highlands:  The My Brother’s Keeper Planning Committee is holding a Summit at Highlands Middle School, 128 Grandview Avenue, Tuesday, Dec. 6th, 6 p.m. to map out a plan to support lifelong positive outcomes for White Plains young men and young boys of color.  The Summit will address a number of important issues regarding education and success.

White Plains Little League:  On behalf of the White Plains Little League Board of Directors, we would like to take this opportunity to invite you to join us for our 23nd Season of Little League Baseball in the City of White Plains.  White Plains Little League has much to be thankful for, and you are an important part to our success.  We hope you will join us again this season!
